August KTC: Tuna Time with Rick!

Well, Kissers, I can scarcely believe it is already September! Even more surprising, perhaps, is that, after barely two months of practice, I have mastered the ability to type with both hands on my laptop while simultaneously holding a sleeping Sebastian. And it's a good thing, too, because otherwise I'd never get our blog updated!

For August's KTC event, we were in for a treat: Rick had just returned from a fishing excursion with over 100 albacore tuna. We Kissers would be the lucky recipients of a great deal of said tuna, and the beautiful summertime weather would be a wonderful accompaniment.

Unfortunately, Anne and Rick's morning had been greeted by a small plumbing issue, and they scrambled to find alternative hosting arrangements. Meg stepped up to the challenge, and we convened at her place for our tuna-ful afternoon.

When we arrived, we were greeted with a lovely spread of snacks, including local cherries and delicious Beecher's "Flagsheep" cheese - which just won Best in Show out of over 1,700 entries at the 2012 American Cheese Society Competition!
We settled in, as we typically do, to share a glass of wine and chat a while as folks arrived. Here are Fernando and Frank demonstrating:
Meg and her new sassy haircut took charge of little Sebastian, who just keeps growing in the most uncanny of manners. I don't know which of them is the cutest!
Rick provided parental advice to Elli, who would be joining us after she finished at work. You may wonder, as we did, what a fine fisherman like Rick wears underneath that apron, but I'm not telling.
There's the sassy haircut again! The underneath part was so soft and caress-able! I had trouble keeping my hands out of it...
Meg's Eggs stood at the ready...
As did the tuna for grilling!
Snacks were consumed, as was wine...
Gratuitous photo of our youngest Kisser:
Here, Fernando proves that he's truly imbibed the Parental Kool-Aid, "Now I'm a Dad" flavor - he's showing Anne his favorite baby photo!
Those cool-looking purple potatoes came out of Anne's garden (right?)....
Here's a shot of Rick's tuna bounty - to be shared with all, to our delight!
Anne expertly manages toasting the baguette for bruschetta...
Fernando was proud as punch that he'd made this yummy tomato concoction under Anne's watchful tutelage.
Cage-free...tomatoes...?
Never letting his wine glass leave his hand, Fernando samples the watermelon in the summery watermelon, cucumber, and feta cheese salad.
Rick, AKA Papa GrillMaster, displays his fine work.
Jessica and Meg engage in the peeling of the dreaded fresh (and freshly-boiled!) hard-cooked egg...
They got the job done, however, and the ingredients for our salade nicoise began to come together.
Henry stepped in to enjoy the baby for a while...
Jessica looks on, overwhelmed by The Cuteness:

Here's a close-up, mostly because Sebastian looks super adorable...
Preparations were winding down, and we all made ready for supper.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present you with the Watermelon, Cucumber, and Feta Salad:
Rick had whipped up a little poke to open our appetite a bit:
Elli's watermelon slice was duly adorned:
The dinner table was augmented:
Meanwhile, the baby-wrangling continued:
Awwwww!
Fernando joins the fun:
Elli and Joyce enjoy some deep discourse:
The bread is toasted:
The grilled tuna is sliced:
And the table was set:

What a gorgeous salad!
Meg shows off her pro-chicken sentiments:

And we all settled in to eat. What a perfect summertime plate!

It was so good, I went back for seconds!

Everyone enjoyed a leisurely meal, and our resident GrillMaster stepped out to grill some lovely peaches for dessert. Here they are, "in the works:"
Inside, Meg plied us with special "red walnuts" - and they were really red!! I'd be curious to see how the color changed if we roasted them. Pretty, aren't they?
Despite how this looks, I believe it was actually an Aikido demonstration or something, and not Henry actually trying to throttle Elli.
To accompany what would already surely be a fabulous dessert, Meg hauled out the digestifs:
And....voila! The aforementioned fabulous dessert! Grilled peaches! Yum!
I'm not sure why I look so darned scary in this photo, but I'll leave it here and call it "artistic." What's your interpretation? Bottle of wine for the best caption!
Doesn't that look like a table full of contented Kissers?
If their faces don't say it clearly, then their empty plates might!
We got a little punchy on the liqueurs...Joyce made eyes at her lovely wife:

And we were treated to a little-known father-daughter act:
Sebastian unfortunately missed the performance:
But he'll have another chance - he's going to be around for a while, after all!

Next up are Meg and Damian, probably on September 23...Stay tuned, Kissers! oxox
